HONORING Alfred H. Brand upon the occasion of his
induction into The MOLES

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Alfred H. Brand upon the occasion of his induction into The MOLES; and

WHEREAS, The MOLES is an extremely prestigious national fraternal
organization composed of leading individuals who have engaged in the
construction of a tunnel, subway, sewer, foundation, marine, sub-aqueous
or other heavy construction projects; and

WHEREAS, In 1968, Alfred H. Brand joined Mueser Rutledge Consulting
Engineers, where he currently serves as a senior partner; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious 46-year career as a geotechnical
engineer, Alfred H. Brand has been instrumental in the success of such
major projects as the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in
Flushing Meadows and River East in Astoria; the new Yankee Stadium in
the Bronx; Battery Park City, 42nd Street Development, and the Second
Avenue Subway in Manhattan; and the Cross Harbor Rail Tunnel in
Brooklyn, among many other monumental projects; and

WHEREAS, As Project Manager and Partner-in-Charge, Alfred H. Brand
has directed a wide variety of foundation, tunnel, earth fill and
waterfront design projects, including buildings, transportation
structures, bulkheads, wharves, piers and cellular structures; and

WHEREAS, In addition to working throughout the United States, Alfred
H. Brand has considerable experience overseas, including assignments in
Panama, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Germany; and

WHEREAS, Alfred H. Brand holds nine professional engineering
licenses and is a diplomate of Geotechnical Engineering; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his community and profession, Alfred H.
Brand has been president and treasurer of the New York Chapter of the
New York State Society of Professional Engineers; chairman of the
Transportation Research Board, Committee on Tunnels and Underground
Structures; and on the Executive Committee of Metropolitan Section ASCE,
Foundations and Soil Mechanics Group; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this esteemed man has presented lectures to
the ASCE Metropolitan Section, and to engineering classes at Polytechnic
University and The Cooper Union; he is also a Continuing Professional
Competency Program evaluator for The Practicing Institute of Engineering
(PIE); and


WHEREAS, Alfred H. Brand was educated at The Cooper Union, earning a
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1967; he went on to
earn a Master of Science degree in Soil Mechanics from Cornell
University in 1969; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alfred H. Brand upon the occasion of his induction into The MOLES;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alfred H. Brand.
