HONORING Armando "Chick" Galella upon the occasion
of his Installation as Grand Marshal of the Sleepy
Hollow St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
its esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their
community; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella will be installed as Grand Marshal
of the Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick's Day Parade during a dinner to be held
at the Westchester Manor on February 23, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella is a 1939 graduate of North
Tarrytown High School; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella enlisted in the United States Army
in 1940; he was stationed at Hickam Field, now known as Hickam Air Base,
next to Pearl Harbor, when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7,
1941; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella survived the attack but lost his
hometown friend John Horan that day; "Chick" still participates in
annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance ceremonies in New York City and Suffern,
and successfully petitioned to rename a waterfront park in Sleepy Hollow
after his fallen comrade; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella served with honor for five years,
reaching the highest rank that an enlisted man can achieve, Battalion
Sergeant Major; he earned the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service
and Bravery for the Battle of Okinawa; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella enjoyed a successful civilian
career as a mechanic at Tom Brown Chevrolet and, later, as a car
salesman at Cawood Motors, now known as Frank Chevrolet; he retired in
1992; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella has contributed his time to
countless organizations, including the Cub Scouts, the Pocantico Hook
and Ladder Company, and the Immaculate Conception Church; he also served
the Village as Trustee, Deputy Mayor, and Fire Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella was instrumental in the addition of
three flagpoles behind the World War II Memorial in Patriot's Park, and
conceived the idea of adding 400 American flags to the front lawn of
Sleepy Hollow Middle School to commemorate Veteran's Day in 2017; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella also worked with elected officials
to build a monument for Gold Star Mother's in Patriot's Park; he also
plans and presides over the annual Memorial Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella has been honored as Grand Marshal
of the Sleepy Hollow Columbus Day Parade in 2002, with induction into

the Westchester County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame, as Honorary Mayor
for a Day, and as Man of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella and his late wife, Leda, are the
proud parents of Armando Galella Jr. and Michael Galella; he has also
been blessed with three grandchildren, Andrea, Melissa, and Bryce, and
four great-grandchildren, AJ, Mia, Ellis, and Luke; and

WHEREAS, Armando "Chick" Galella is a wonderful role model and asset
to his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Armando "Chick" Galella upon the occasion of his installation as
Grand Marshal of the Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Armando "Chick" Galella.
