COMMENDING Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd upon the
occasion of her designation as Deputy Marshal of the
2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd upon the occasion of her designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd will march as Deputy Marshal of the 25th Annual
Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New
York, on Sunday, March 25, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and

WHEREAS, Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd, affectionately known to her
friends and family as Liza Sue, was born to retired Army Colonel Bill
and Georgia Schneider; a proud "Army brat," Liza has lived in many
places across the United States, including California, Georgia, West
Point, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and the last duty station, Fort Totten in
Queens, New York; and

WHEREAS, Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd earned her bachelor's degree in
elementary education from SUNY Cortland in 1989; after graduating, she
moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, After receiving her master's degree in special education,
Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd served as a teacher with the New York City Board
of Education for 22 years, 14 of which were in Bay Ridge; she furthered
her education by obtaining certifications in Reading Recovery and
Therapeutic Crisis Intervention; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd is an Elementary Reading
Recovery Teacher and the Special Education Liaison and Teacher at PS/IS
30; dedicated to her school community, she has coached the NYRR Rising
Runners Team, and has continuously participated in various activities
and fund-raisers; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her work at PS/IS 30, Liza S.
Schneider-Lloyd serves as a certified Mentor for the NYCDOE; in this
capacity, she regularly shares her skills and experiences with young
teachers; and

WHEREAS, After the death of her good friend, Jimmy Riches in the
attacks of 9/11, Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd has continued to help keep his

memory alive by participating in several events each year with the
Friends of Jimmy Riches Scholarship Fund; and

WHEREAS, Proud of her heritage, Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd can trace
her Irish roots to her maternal great-grandmother Sadie Hurley and
paternal great-grandmother Clara Blewitt who both came to America from
Ireland as young girls and settled in New York City and Newark, New
Jersey; raised with strong Irish Catholic values, Liza has been an
active member of many parishes across the country and is now a faithful
member of St. Ephrem's Parish; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, Scott Lloyd, who
has shown her love and support and rejoices in her many achievements;
and

WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and

WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd embodies the spirit and
the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State
and Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd upon the occasion of her designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Liza S. Schneider-Lloyd.
