COMMENDING Deirdre Cronin-Butler upon the occasion
of her designation as Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Deirdre Cronin-Butler upon the occasion of her designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Deirdre Cronin-Butler will march as Deputy Marshal of the 25th Annual
Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New
York, on Sunday, March 25, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and
WHEREAS, Deirdre Cronin Butler was born to Maryann and Eugene Cronin
in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where she spent her first nine years living on
84th Street along with her sister and brother, Laura and Gene; she
attended St. Anselm's School, the alma mater of her father and many
other family members and where her mother regularly volunteered; and
WHEREAS, Deirdre Cronin Butler is thankful to her parents for having
instilled the importance of the Catholic faith and Catholic education as
well as pride in her Irish heritage, which traces back to County Cork on
both her mother's and father's side; and
WHEREAS, After her father retired from the FDNY, Deirdre Cronin
Butler and her family moved to California, later settling in Lincroft,
New Jersey, where she was a student at Red Bank Catholic High School;
upon graduation, she earned her bachelor's degree in business and
economics from Fordham University in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Deirdre Cronin Butler began her long
and distinguished career in finance; in 1990, she returned to her
hometown of Bay Ridge; and
WHEREAS, After a 20-year career in money management, Deirdre Cronin
Butler left the industry to start her own business and, in January of
2011, opened Paws Truly Pet Boutique on 3rd Avenue; along with her
business partner, and parade mascot, Seamus the Labradoodle, they have
forged a second home on the Avenue where they have welcomed a wonderful
group of customers turned friends; and
WHEREAS, Through her flourishing business, Deirdre Cronin Butler has
graciously supported various community events and causes over the years
such as the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, The Kings County
Memorial Day Parade, and Narrows Botanical Gardens Harvest Fest, as well
as numerous pet adoption events and donation collections for various
worthy organizations; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband of 15 years,
Michael Butler, who has shown her love and support and rejoices in her
many achievements; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Deirdre Cronin-Butler embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Deirdre Cronin-Butler upon the occasion of her designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deirdre Cronin-Butler.
