COMMENDING Connor Patrick O'Mara upon the occasion
of his designation as Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Connor Patrick O'Mara upon the occasion of his designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Connor Patrick O'Mara will march as Deputy Marshal of the 25th Annual
Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New
York, on Sunday, March 25, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Connor Patrick
O'Mara was born to Richard and Maureen (Donnelly) O'Mara; he and his
twin brother, Christopher, are third-generation descendants of great
grandparents who hailed from Counties Limerick and Cork, Ireland, and
the towns of Bay Bulls and Tors Cove, Newfoundland; and
WHEREAS, Connor Patrick O'Mara was a student at Our Lady of Angels
Catholic Elementary School where, as an alumnus, he has volunteered as a
referee in their Intramural Sports Programs, and is still a devoted
parishioner; and
WHEREAS, Connor Patrick O'Mara was an exceptional student athlete at
Cathedral Preparatory Seminary High School in Elmhurst, Queens, where he
was instrumental in his team winning the 2007 C.H.S.A.A. City Baseball
Championship; he was also named the 2007 Cathedral Prep Sportsman of the
Year, and was elected to the 2007 C.H.S.A.A. All City Basketball Team;
and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Connor Patrick O'Mara earned his
bachelor's degree in business management from St. Francis College in
Brooklyn Heights; he began his career working on Wall Street with
several companies including BNY Convergex, Societe Generale, and ICAP
North America; currently, he is an Operations Control Associate at
Cantor Fitzgerald; and
WHEREAS, A proud Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus,
Connor Patrick O'Mara is an esteemed Past Grand Knight of Thomas Dongan
Council No. 1251 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; he is also a member of the
Breezy Point Catholic Club Pipes & Drums where he plays bagpipes in all
the local parades and memorials; and
WHEREAS, Connor Patrick O'Mara truly enjoys giving back to his
community by participating in holiday food drives benefitting the OLA
Food Pantry, clothing drives for the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults,
and events for the Special Olympics, Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, and
Wheelchairs for Warriors; and
WHEREAS, Ever the proud Irishman, Connor Patrick O'Mara has a deep
love of family, friends, community, bagpipes, sports, Jammers Softball,
St. Patrick's Legends Basketball, Fort Hamilton Roller Hockey, and
anything related to Notre Dame; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Connor Patrick O'Mara embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Connor Patrick O'Mara upon the occasion of his designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Connor Patrick O'Mara.
