HONORING Jacob Brass upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Herbert A. Applebaum
Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jacob Brass upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Herbert A. Applebaum Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center, to be celebrated on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Temple
Israel, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this prestigious awards ceremony recognizes
individuals for their contributions to the Center and the Jewish
community-at-large by acting as moral pillars and dispensers of wisdom
and advice, providing continued service and leadership, and acting
generously in the spirit of Tzedakah; and
WHEREAS, Widely known for his extraordinary dedication to Israel and
the local community, Jacob Brass' leadership endeavors continue to
inspire all of those who are lucky enough to know him; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Delmar, New York, Jacob Brass is a senior at
Bethlehem Central High School where he competes in Varsity Track and
Cross Country; he plans to continue his education to study business; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Brass has been a member of the Sidney Albert Albany
Jewish Community Center (JCC) since he was just two months old; he
progressed through the Early Childhood program and is a graduate of the
JCC Kindergarten class of 2006; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Jacob Brass attended camp, learned to swim and
celebrated many birthdays at the Center; as a teen, he continued to be
involved both as a participant and volunteer for the Dunkin Run, as well
as a volunteer for the Senior Health Fair; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Brass attended the Hebrew Academy for two years and a
summer at Camp Givah; he enjoyed five summers at Crane Lake Camp in West
Stockbridge, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, An active member of Congregation Beth Emeth, Jacob Brass
has participated in its Youth Group, where he had an opportunity to join
other Jewish teens in a Civil Rights Teen Tour; additionally, he is a
member of the Beth Emeth confirmation class of 2016; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to volunteerism,
Jacob Brass gives of his time and energies to the Children's High
Holiday Program; and
WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Jacob Brass spent a summer away on a
two-month course in the Yukon Territory with the National Outdoor
Leadership School; he is currently working at Steiner's Ski and Bike
Shop in Glenmont; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his parents, Ruth and Rob, as
well as his two younger brothers, Ethan and Eli, who have all shown him
love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Jacob Brass represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jacob Brass upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Herbert A. Applebaum Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany
Jewish Community Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jacob Brass.
