COMMENDING the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi
Phi Fraternity, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its 6th Annual Rudolph W. Powell Memorial Dinner
Dance, and paying tribute to this year's honorees on
February 24, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to organizations of true purpose and worthy accomplishment
which are dedicated to serving their community and to celebrating and
preserving their rich ethnic heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. upon
the occasion of hosting its 6th Annual Rudolph W. Powell Memorial Dinner
Dance, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on Saturday, February
24, 2018, at Marina Del Rey in Bronx, New York; and

WHEREAS, This year's honorees include Yusef Salaam, D.H.L., Public
Speaker and Member of the Central Park 5; Alyson Myers, M.D., Medical
Director, North Shore University, and Professor, Hofstra University
School of Medicine; Malcolm Jenkins, Safety, Philadelphia Eagles
Football Club, and Member, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Rosann
Santos, Director of Strategic Initiatives, John Jay College, and Public
Speaker and Success Coach; Tamekia Flowers-Ball, CEO, Epiphany Blue;
Shakiema Dixon, Executive Director, King Towers Community Center,
Community Leader; Erin Stevens, Deputy Comptroller, Intergovernmental
and Community Affairs; and Woody Victor, Vice President of Real Estate
Department, SOBRO, and Member, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, The first international fraternal organization to be
established on the campus of a historically black college, Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University
in Washington, D.C. by three of the University's undergraduates, Edgar
Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman, as well as their
faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just; and

WHEREAS, In early 1948, Brothers Bertrand Green, Clarence Lee,
Augustus Jenkins, Harry Denny, Jr., Theodore Neely, S.H. Craig, Leonard
E. Dickerson, Luther A. Thomas, III and Lloyd T. Barnes met to discuss
building a new Omega Chapter in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The first meeting of Kappa Omicron Chapter was held on
September 25 1948, and the Brothers received their charter from Brother
Mifflin T. Gibbs, who also renewed their allegiance by administering the
sacred oath of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, At this time, the following brothers were elected officers
of the new Chapter: Brother Herschel "Ripp" Day, Basileus; Brother Harry
Denny, Jr., Keeper of Records and Seal; Brother Bertrand W. Green,
Keeper of Finance; Brother Clarence Lee, Chapter Editor; Brother Harry
Jefferson, Chaplain; Brother Augustus Jenkins, Keeper of Peace; and
Brother Theodore Neeley, Vice Basileus; and


WHEREAS, Today, the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc. continues to uplift and support its community through
numerous economic, international, scholarship, and other philanthropic
programs; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity is in direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and celebrated by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. upon
the occasion of hosting its 6th Annual Rudolph W. Powell Memorial Dinner
Dance, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on February 24, 2018;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc.
