COMMENDING The Ed. Foundation upon the occasion of
hosting its Annual Spring Party, and paying tribute
to this year's honorees on April 13, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations and individuals who are committed to
enhancing the quality of education in the State of New York, and which
enable our schools to offer excellent educational programs in the most
efficient manner; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The Ed. Foundation upon the occasion of hosting its Annual
Spring Party, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on Friday,
April 13, 2018, at the Harbor in Port Washington, New York; and

WHEREAS, This year's honorees include all seven of the extraordinary
Principals from Port Washington School District: Dr. Ira Pernick,
Schreiber High School; Dr. Sheri Suzzan, Daly Elementary School; Barbara
Gebel, Guggenheim Elementary School; Bonni Cohen, Manorhaven Elementary
School; Christopher Shields, Weber Middle School; Dr. Pia Ferrante,
Salem Elementary School; and Dr. David Meoli, Sousa Elementary School;
and

WHEREAS, All of these outstanding educators have clearly had an
enduring impact on the youth of their schools, as well as on the
community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
their impressive dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, The Ed. Foundation supports initiatives which are beyond
the scope of the school budget, enhancing educational opportunities for
all students in Port Washington; this vital organization supports
various programs in each of the district's seven schools including an
Alvin Ailey Dance Theater workshop for first graders at Salem School to
an introduction to electronics and electrical engineering at Schreiber
High School; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2001, The Ed. Foundation has awarded
hundreds of grants in every school at every grade level and in every
subject area; and

WHEREAS, The success of The Ed. Foundation is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its President Emerita Amy G. Bass, its Board of
Directors, and its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, With just cause and true purpose, this Legislative Body is
pleased to recognize the significant contributions of The Ed. Foundation
to Education in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Ed. Foundation upon the occasion of hosting its Annual
Spring Party, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on April 13,
2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned honorees, and Amy G. Bass, President
Emerita, The Ed. Foundation.
