COMMENDING Michelle Shain upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Residents for
a More Beautiful Port Washington on March 16, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Michelle Shain upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington to be
celebrated at its 50th Anniversary Gala on Friday, March 16, 2018, at
Leonard's Palozzo in Great Neck, New York; and

WHEREAS, For the last five decades, Residents for a More Beautiful
Port Washington has strived to improve the quality of life in its
community, educate its residents about the environment and its impact on
health, and develop policy and planning initiatives; and

WHEREAS, A native Long Islander, Michelle Shain has been living in
Port Washington, New York, for the last 21 years; she has truly grown to
love her neighbors and the beauty of her community; and

WHEREAS, After earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the
University of Michigan, Michelle Shain began her long and esteemed
graphic design career as an art director at a New York City advertising
agency specializing in high-end fashion and luxury goods; in this
capacity, she worked with clients and writers to create
thought-provoking and visually appealing ad campaigns; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Shain then switched gears and became a freelance
graphic designer; she established Headlights Creative where she
specializes in designing logos, brochures, infographics, websites,
signage, and invitations for her customers which include Landmark on
Main Street, HEARTS, and The Port Washington Library, as well as many
retailers, service providers and sole practitioners; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Shain proudly collaborated with Residents for a
More Beautiful Port Washington to create The Port Washington Mural
Project; she helped design and launch the murals, which show the beauty
of her beloved community, both present and past; and

WHEREAS, This talented woman was also instrumental in forming an
artist's enclave at the top of Main Street, which is available for
visitors to browse through both day and night; and

WHEREAS, When she is not working or helping someone, Michelle Shain
enjoys staying fit by tap dancing, playing tennis and snow skiing; she
also likes to relax through painting with watercolors, and looking for
treasures in antique shops; and


WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Randy, and their
two sons, Jackson and Dillon, all of whom have shown her love and
support and rejoice in her many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Michelle Shain upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington on March
16, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michelle Shain.
