MOURNING the death of Anthony J. Cavallo,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Cavallo, affectionately known as Tony, of
Cornwall, New York, died on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the age of 75;
and
WHEREAS, The son of the late Joseph and Lena (DiPaolo) Cavallo,
Anthony J. Cavallo was born on August 7, 1942 in the Bronx, joining his
sister, Lucille, and a large extended family with whom he would enjoy
his childhood years; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Cavallo graduated from Mount Saint Michael
Academy in 1960, before honorably serving his country as a member of the
United States Army Reserve; and
WHEREAS, On December 6, 1964, Anthony J. Cavallo married the love of
his life, the former Elizabeth (BettyAnn) Morstatt; together they
enjoyed 53 years of marriage and raised their four children in Cornwall,
where they spent countless hours enjoying Little League games and
Cornwall Dragon football; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Cavallo began his illustrious career with the
New York State Police in 1964; after 24 years of distinguished service,
he retired as an investigator with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation
in 1988; and
WHEREAS, After working in real estate and as an insurance
investigator with AIG until 2010, Anthony J. Cavallo went on to serve as
an aide to his dear friend, New York State Senator Bill Larkin; and
WHEREAS, Active in his beloved community, Anthony J. Cavallo served
as a Cornwall Town Board member from 1992 to 1996; he was a member and
past president of the Newburgh chapter of UNICO International, as well
as a member of the Retired Trooper's Association and American Legion
Post 1796; and
WHEREAS, A true force of nature and a man of great thought,
integrity and honor, Anthony J. Cavallo loved a good cigar, crossword
puzzles, discussing history, debating politics, John Wayne movies, a
traditional Italian meal, and traveling and dining with great friends,
particularly best friends, Dick and Dottie Thorpe; and
WHEREAS, Most of all, Anthony J. Cavallo loved spending time with
his wife, his children and their spouses, and his seven beautiful
grandchildren, especially during their annual beach vacation in Avalon,
New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Cavallo left his mark on this world in so many
ways and will continue to live on in the stories and cherished memories
of those lucky enough to have known him; he will be greatly missed; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by an infant daughter, Anthony J. Cavallo is
survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Joseph (Kathi) and Anthony
(Kara); two daughters, Alicia (Ted) and Amy (Clint); seven
grandchildren, Meghan, Kevin, Matthew, Nicholas, Joseph, Will and Luke;
a sister, Lucille and brother-in-law, Ralph; a niece, LeeAnn (Alan); two
nephews, Ronald (Danielle) and Steven (Carla); and brother-in-law,
George, along with many beloved cousins; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Anthony J. Cavallo leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Anthony J. Cavallo, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Anthony J. Cavallo.
