COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Schenectady
Inner City Ministry

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Schenectady Inner City Ministry, to
be celebrated with a Jubilee on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at the Glen
Sanders Mansion, Scotia, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will include appearances by two
individuals who were key participants in this vital organization's
humble beginnings, Reverend James Miller and Reverend Robert Pierce; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1967 as a faith-based, non-sectarian
organization, Schenectady Inner City Ministry cares for Schenectady
County's at-risk populations through ministries focusing on: food
insecurity; family, seniors and youth; diversity and acceptance; and
collaborations, partnerships and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, Schenectady Inner City Ministry has initiated such
essential programs as Community Land Trust, Nutrition Outreach, Project
SAFE, Bethesda House, Senior Connect and Community Garden; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Schenectady Inner City Ministry was
instrumental in the successful improvement of police and community
relations, as well as housing code reform and the Emmett Street
Initiative; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 50-year history, Schenectady Inner
City Ministry has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of Schenectady Inner City Ministry is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its volunteers, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Schenectady Inner City
Ministry; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Schenectady Inner City Ministry; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Schenectady Inner City Ministry, Schenectady, New York.
