HONORING John F. Milone Jr. upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Victor V.
Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by
American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational
Facilities, Inc. on April 15, 2018
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, John F. Milone Jr. has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John F.
Milone Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by American Legion
Kings County Youth Recreational Facilities, Inc. to be celebrated at its
24th Annual Baseball Banquet on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Gargiulo's
Restaurant in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facilities,
Inc. provides and maintains baseball fields for use by neighborhood
youth organizations and schools in Brooklyn, New York, allowing
thousands of children to play baseball in a clean and safe environment
at no cost to them or their families; and
WHEREAS, John Milone Jr. was born to Gloria and John Milone Sr. on
May 7, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended Our Lady of Peace
School; after he and his family moved to the Dyker Heights neighborhood,
he continued his grammar school education at St. Ephrems; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Bishop Ford High School, John Milone
Jr. earned his associate's degree in business management from Staten
Island Community College in 1976; he then transferred to Baruch College
where he majored in accounting; and
WHEREAS, In 1979, John Milone Jr. opened a diner which served the
people from Moore McCormack lines in Brooklyn; upon selling the
business, he worked as a broker at Merrill Lynch in Manhattan; in 1986,
he returned to the hospitality industry and joined a wholesale bakery
business; and
WHEREAS, John F. Milone Jr. has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, On April 8, 1993, John F. Milone Jr. joined the
Bensonhurst-Bay Ridge Kiwanis Club where he held the title of President
from 2000-2001; he was also a volunteer at the local food pantry, and
currently, sits on its Board of Directors; he is also a faithful member
of the Holy Name Society at Saint Bernadette Church; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, John F. Milone Jr. has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, A private licensed pilot, John F. Milone Jr. loves to find
adventure and travel all over the world with his wife; he also enjoys
spending time outdoors on the water, whether it is boating, jet skiing,
water skiing, scuba diving, or fishing; and
WHEREAS, A proud second generation Italian-American, John Milone Jr.
truly loves and embraces his family; with him throughout have been his
wife, Miriam, his three sisters, Michele, Debra and Diane, and his four
nieces, Kristen, Alexis, Amanda, and Dana, as well as his great-nephew
Antonio John, all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in
his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John F. Milone Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John F. Milone Jr.
