CONGRATULATING Grant Cuomo upon the occasion of
capturing the New York State Section 1 Wrestling
Championship
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
the outstanding achievements of its esteemed youth; and
WHEREAS, Grant Cuomo realized a life-long dream when he won the New
York State Section 1 Wrestling Championship; and
WHEREAS, Grant Cuomo, a senior at Brewster High School, wrestles in
the 170-pound division for Division 1 and finished his season with a
17-3 record; and
WHEREAS, Grant Cuomo suffered a dislocated left elbow in December
and was given only a ten percent chance of wrestling again in high
school competition; and
WHEREAS, With the injury still not completely healed, Grant Cuomo
upset the defending State Champion with a 13-10 decision at the Times
Union Center on February 24, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The exciting match was tied 9-9 late in the third period
and Grant Cuomo had an opportunity to force overtime; instead, he
decided to allow his opponent to escape, fell behind by one point, and,
with 18 seconds remaining, completed a four-point move to clinch the
title; and
WHEREAS, Grant Cuomo has inspired student athletes across the State
through his resilience after injury, sportsmanship, and athletic
ability; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Grant Cuomo upon the occasion of capturing the New York
State Section 1 Wrestling Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Grant Cuomo.
