HONORING Lucy Raskin upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Tri
Community and Youth Agency on March 22, 2018

WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the
community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lucy Raskin upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Tri Community and Youth Agency, to be celebrated at its Hall of
Honor event on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the Woodbury Country Club,
Woodbury, New York; and

WHEREAS, Lucy Raskin's passion for charity began in middle school
when she volunteered at the AHRC after her best friend's sister was born
with Down Syndrome; from this point forward she was committed to giving
back to her community and actively creating a world that she could be
proud of; and

WHEREAS, In 1988, Lucy Raskin began raising funds for the Pediatric
Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, during which time she also worked with
Forward Face, a group that helps children with severe facial
deformities; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, she volunteered with Island Harvest, the
largest hunger relief organization on Long Island, collecting food from
local restaurants and food stores and delivering them to soup kitchens
and food pantries; and

WHEREAS, It was through this experience that Lucy Raskin became
involved with Tri-Care and many other Long Island charities dedicated to
helping marginalized citizens; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering dedication to her
community, Lucy Raskin has tirelessly volunteered with such
organizations as Head Start Huntington, Temple Beth-El social action
committee, the Tri Community and Youth Agency (Tri CYA) of Huntington,
and the VA of Northport; and

WHEREAS, Lucy Raskin has given unselfishly and generously to the Tri
CYA where she directly mentored students, and has been a longtime
volunteer for Project T.O.Y.; and

WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, Lucy Raskin gives to her family
with the same passion and commitment she has for helping those in need;
and


WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Lucy Raskin has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of 43 years,
Mark, and their two sons, Scott and Michael, as well as two
grandchildren, who have all shown her love and support and rejoice in
her many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Lucy Raskin, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lucy Raskin upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Tri Community and Youth Agency on March 22, 2018; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lucy Raskin.
