CONGRATULATING Lori Beesmer upon the occasion of
her induction into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Lori Beesmer upon the occasion of her induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, Lori Beesmer is a 1983 graduate of SUNY Orange, where she
distinguished herself by her many notable achievements as a member of
the soccer, basketball, and softball teams; and

WHEREAS, In 1982, Lori Beesmer was instrumental in founding the
women's soccer team at SUNY Orange; during the team's first year, she
set a national junior college scoring record with 36 goals in 14 games,
helping the Colts reach the semifinals of the national tournament; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional athlete was also the recipient of the Mary
B. Diana Award, and named to the Region XV All-Star teams in both
basketball and softball, along with numerous soccer accolades; and

WHEREAS, After transferring to SUNY Cortland, Lori Beesmer continued
to excel on the soccer field; she was recognized as a two-time
All-American, two-time Northeast Regional Player of the Year, and was
named the 1985 SUNY Athletic Conference East Division Player of the
Year; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her three seasons at SUNY Cortland, Lori Beesmer
compiled 116 points, including 39 goals and 38 assists, and concluded
her career ranked second on the career scoring list; she also holds the
record for 17 assists during a single season, and 38 assists throughout
her career; and

WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the Cortland Dragons posted 45 wins
against 10 losses and eight ties; the team advanced to the NCAA Division
I Soccer Tournament three times, reaching the quarterfinals twice; and

WHEREAS, Lori Beesmer served as Head Coach of the Cazenovia Central
High School Soccer Team and Assistant Coach at SUNY Oswego and the
United States Military Academy; and

WHEREAS, Athletes such as Lori Beesmer provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and


WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Lori Beesmer for
her extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to her
skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lori Beesmer upon the occasion of her induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lori Beesmer.
