COMMENDING Nadine Whitted upon the occasion of her
retirement as Community Board 4 District Manager
after 30 years of service

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Nadine
Whitted upon the occasion of her retirement as Community Board 4
District Manager after 30 years of service; and

WHEREAS, As the District Manager of Brooklyn's Community Board 4,
Nadine Whitted was a dedicated and driven community advocate for three
decades; and

WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Nadine Whitted, demonstrated
leadership qualities at a young age; in 1972, her senior class at
Bushwick High School presented her with the Outstanding Service Award,
which marked the beginning of her love of service, delivery and laboring
on the behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduating from Brooklyn College with her degree in
Education, Nadine Whitted applied for a position at Brooklyn Community
Board 4 and was hired as an Administrative Aide approximately three days
prior to the Black Out of July of 1977; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership and the tutelage of then District
Manager, John Dereszewski, Nadine Whitted was encouraged to serve the
Bushwick community by working to cure its many social ills such as
landlord abandonment, lack of public and affordable housing, the drug
epidemic, inferior infrastructure, and illiteracy, as well as rampant
unemployment; and

WHEREAS, Nadine Whitted's compassion, patience, humility and
understanding quickly elevated her to the position of Assistant District
Manager; in this capacity, she worked even harder and with zeal, passion
and persistence, became an even stronger advocate for the residents of
Community Board 4; and

WHEREAS, In 1986, Nadine Whitted was promoted to the esteemed role
of Community Board 4 District Manager, a position from which she
officially retired in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Nadine Whitted served the residents
of Community Board 4 with intelligence and caring dedication,
continuously striving to effectively fulfill the duties of her position;
and

WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with
whom she worked, Nadine Whitted will be remembered for her honesty,

integrity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of
human problems in her official acts; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nadine Whitted upon the occasion of her retirement as Community
Board 4 District Manager, and to wish her continued success in all her
future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nadine Whitted.
