HONORING Lin Tan upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Healthfirst,
on March 29, 2018, in conjunction with the
observance of Women's History Month

WHEREAS, The State of New York is home to countless women who have
contributed to the advancement of our culture through both their
traditional and non-traditional roles in society; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lin Tan upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
Healthfirst, to be observed at its Community Award Celebration at
Maestro's Caterers, Bronx, New York, on Thursday, March 29, 2018, in
conjunction with the observance of Women's History Month; this year's
award celebration theme is "Groundbreakers and Herstory Makers of
Today"; and

WHEREAS, Lin Tan is being recognized for demonstrating an unwavering
commitment to being a voice in the community and is focused on issues
that are important to its residents; this exceptional woman reflects the
fabric of her city and works daily to improve conditions for others; and

WHEREAS, A well-known television presenter, news anchorwoman, and
television program producer, Lin Tan serves as the chief television host
for New York City based SinoVision, the largest Chinese language
television station based outside of Asia; and

WHEREAS, Lin Tan earned her bachelor's degree from Communication
University of China; during this time, she worked on "Oriental Horizon,"
an influential news program which aired on China Central Television
(CCTV); and

WHEREAS, At the age of 20, Lin Tan became the host for "Charm
Frontline," the most popular fashion program on Beijing Television
(BTV); she also hosted various other programs and events such as
"International Fashion Show," "Fashion Follow Me," "Beauty of China,"
"Healthy Fashion," and "NetEase Celebrities Talk Show"; and

WHEREAS, Lin Tan relocated to New York City to pursue a master's
degree in television and film production in 2007; shortly thereafter,
she became the Chief News Anchorwoman of SinoVision; in this capacity,
she hosted the "Nightly News" program five nights a week, as well as
interviewed and produced a number of special feature short films; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Lin Tan was named one of the most influential
Chinese persons overseas, and assumed the role of both host and
co-producer for "New York Lounge"; in these roles, she conducted
one-on-one interviews with over 1,000 Chinese and American celebrities,
accomplished individuals, and famous personalities; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her work with SinoVision, Lin Tan founded
the Chinese American History and Culture Center (CAHCC) in 2017; this

non-profit organization strives to preserve and promote Chinese American
history and culture in the United States; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of his Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lin Tan upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Healthfirst, on March 29, 2018, in conjunction with the
observance of Women's History Month; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lin Tan.
