Senate Resolution No. 4308

CONGRATULATING Violet Godino upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday on March 30, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Violet Godino upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday on Friday, March 30, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Violet Godino was born on March 30, 1918, to Italian
immigrants who entered the United States through Ellis Island; and
WHEREAS, As a young child, Violet Godino picked peas and hops in the
fields with her mother and siblings; when she got older, she left school
and worked in a factory to help support her family; during World War II,
she worked in a defense plant inspecting airplane parts; and
WHEREAS, In September of 1941, Violet Godino married Frank Godino,
and together, the couple raised two beautiful children, Jeffrey and
Annmarie; even though she held a part-time position, she always made
sure she was able to greet her children with a warm smile when they came
home from school; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being a loving and caring mother, Violet
Godino was also a devoted daughter; her mother lived with her and her
family at their home for many years; and
WHEREAS, Violet Godino always had a thirst for knowledge and read
reams of books throughout her lifetime; she loved to share a home cooked
meal with her friends and family, and enjoyed playing cards in a regular
card game until she was around 99 years old; and
WHEREAS, Violet Godino, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Violet Godino has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Violet Godino upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday on March 30, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Violet Godino.
