CONGRATULATING Coach Steve Kmack upon the occasion
of his induction into the New York State Basketball
Coaches Hall of Fame on March 25, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes and coaches who have distinguished themselves
through their exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success
and the highest level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Coach Steve Kmack upon the occasion of his induction into
the New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at
a Ceremony on Sunday, March 25, 2018, in Heritage Hall at the Glens
Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame honors
the best coaches in the history of basketball in the State; Steve Kmack
is truly deserving of this esteemed recognition; and
WHEREAS, As a young boy growing up in Tupper Lake, New York, Steve
Kmack dreamed about becoming a basketball coach; he began his long and
distinguished career as assistant for the SUNY Potsdam JV Men's
Basketball Team; he later assumed the role of head coach where he
amassed a 91-14 record including a perfect 21-0 campaign during the
1982-1983 season, and a 30-game winning streak; and
WHEREAS, Steve Kmack then served as the Head Coach of Potsdam High
School from 1983-1988, 2000-2003, and from 2004-2013, leaving twice for
personal reasons; Coach Kmack is widely regarded by his players as a
passionate, dedicated and inspiring coach, guiding the Potsdam
Sandstoners to an incredible overall record of 373-99 in 23 years; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable mentor also led his team to eight division
championships, eight sectional titles, and four overall sectional
championships; in 1985, the Sandstoners captured its first divisional
title in 47 years, the next year, its first sectional title in 27 years,
and its first overall sectional championship in 50 years in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Steve Kmack and his outstanding athletes also went to the
final four three times, including a state championship final appearance
in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Coach Kmack truly loves and cares about each and every one
of his athletes, and has diligently worked to not only teach them
basketball skills, but also, the values of good sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, Through his humor and passion, Steve Kmack has been an
inspiration to basketball players, their families, and the community for
many years, and accordingly merits recognition for his tremendous
passion and competitive spirit; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all members of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Coach Steve Kmack upon the occasion on his induction into
the New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Coach Steve Kmack.
