CONGRATULATING Nick Lydon upon the occasion of
capturing the Class AA New York State Public High
School Athletic Association Diving Championship on
March 2, 2018

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Nick Lydon upon the occasion of capturing the Class AA New
York State Public High School Athletic Association Diving Championship
at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York; and

WHEREAS, In December of 2017, Nick Lydon's outstanding season began
in dramatic fashion, when he set a New York State record with a score of
661.75 points for 11 dives at the Annual Shenendehowa Invitational;
later, he easily won his third Section II Division I diving title, and
was on his way to the State finals; and

WHEREAS, On the morning of the Championship, Nick Lydon felt
confident; after six dives, he led his closest opponent by three points;
after performing his three best dives in the finals, he captured the
11-dive event with 559.25 points; and

WHEREAS, After graduating, Nick Lydon plans to dive for the
University of Florida; and

WHEREAS, In sports such as diving, which demands athletic prowess,
speed and agility, Coach Dennis Hogan and his skilled coaching staff
worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching this
outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both in and out
of the pool; and

WHEREAS, Nick Lydon has clearly utilized dedication and
determination in providing a lasting contribution to the spirit of
excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Nick Lydon upon the occasion of capturing the Class AA New
York State Public High School Athletic Association Diving Championship
on March 2, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nick Lydon and Coach Dennis Hogan.
