MOURNING the death of Harold W. Snopek,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Harold W. "Hal" Snopek of Binghamton, New York, died on
Friday, March 16, 2018, at the age of 78; and
WHEREAS, Harold W. Snopek graduated from Chenango Forks High School
where he was a multiyear letterman, setting several school records, one
of which still stands today; he was inducted into the NYSPHSAA Hall of
Fame in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Harold W. Snopek was a parishioner at the former St.
Christopher's Church where he and his high school sweetheart, Donna
Fendick, were united in marriage 57 years ago; and
WHEREAS, A car salesman for JW Greene for 25 years, Harold W. Snopek
loved working on cars and drove stock cars at 5 Mile Point in the late
1950s and early 1960s; he later enjoyed driving around with his wife in
their 1932 Chevy; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Harold W. Snopek served the Town of Chenango as a Town Board
Member and was currently the Town Supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Harold W. Snopek was dedicated to his family and enjoyed
attending as many of his grandchildren's activities as he could; he will
be remembered for taking care of people and his sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his son, Tim; his parents, Archard and
Janet; a brother, Paul; sisters-in-law, Lucille and Maria, Harold W.
Snopek is survived by his high school sweetheart and love of his life,
Donna; two daughters, Tami (Frank) and Tina (Ernie); four grandchildren,
Sara (Lorne), Mitchell, Payton and Ernie; two great-grandchildren, Audra
and Arthur; a niece, Connie; nephew, Amos; his brother and
sisters-in-law, Fran Chier, Len and Maxine Fendick, Dorothy and Bob
Rittenburg, Dorothy Fendick, Al and Rita Fendick, Ted Fendick, Anita and
Gary Haskell, and Richard Fendick, as well as his Godchildren and many
special nieces, nephews and friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Harold W. Snopek leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Harold W. Snopek, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Harold W. Snopek.
