COMMENDING Martin Tighe upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Detective
Barney Ferguson Emerald Legacy Fund on May 31, 2018

WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our valiant firefighters who exhibit courage and bravery
every day in the course of their duties; and

WHEREAS, Firefighters exemplify the power of human compassion and
the strength of the American spirit through actions of the most heroic
magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless dedication merit tribute
and recognition by all citizens of this great country; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Martin Tighe upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Detective Barney Ferguson Emerald Legacy Fund to be
celebrated at its 4th Annual 10-13/May Day Event on Thursday, May 31,
2018, at Juliano's Restaurant in New Rochelle, New York; and

WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Martin Tighe has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence, and
diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
profession and consequently has been selected for this most prestigious
honor; and

WHEREAS, Born in July of 1964 in the Bronx, New York, Martin "Marty"
Tighe grew up in Throggs Neck where he attended St. Francis de Chantal
Grammar School, and graduated from St. Raymond's High School for Boys in
1982; and

WHEREAS, In January of 1985, Martin Tighe joined the New York City
Transit Police Department; throughout his five-year tenure, he patrolled
streets and rode subways in the Times Square area; and

WHEREAS, Martin Tighe then began his long and distinguished career
with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) with Engine 8 in
Midtown-Manhattan; shortly thereafter, he transferred to Engine 88 in
the Belmont section of the Bronx, where he served for 24 years until his
official retirement; in this capacity, he played a vital role in five
unit citations; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to his profession and his fellow firefighters,
Martin Tighe served for 20 years as company delegate for the Uniformed
Firefighters Association (UFA), and Holy Name Society, where he helped
organize the Annual St. Patrick's Day Party for the firemen; and

WHEREAS, After his much deserved retirement from the FDNY, Martin
Tighe continues to serve as the retirement liaison for the UFA; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kathleen, and their
two sons, Brendan and Liam, all of whom have shown him love and support
and rejoice in his many achievements; and


WHEREAS, Firefighters unwaveringly serve our great State with pride,
valor, and integrity; these respected volunteers are often the first to
respond to an emergency, whether the emergency is a fire, transportation
accident, natural disaster, act of terrorism, medical crisis, or spill
of hazardous materials; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
Marty Tighe was such a firefighter; throughout many years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which defined the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Marty Tighe upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Detective Barney Ferguson Emerald Legacy Fund
on May 31, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Firefighter Marty Tighe.
