RECOGNIZING April 24, 2018, as Irish Republic Day

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant days of observance; and

WHEREAS, April 24th is annually recognized as Irish Republic Day, in
remembrance of the 1916 Easter Rising; and

WHEREAS, On April 24, 1916, Easter Monday, Irish patriots, supported
by exiled children in America, proclaimed Ireland's ancient right to
freedom, rebelling in Dublin against the British Empire; and

WHEREAS, Although the Rising was crushed and its leaders executed,
events began which led to freedom for 26 of Ireland's 32 counties in an
Irish Republic; and

WHEREAS, The Ancient Order of Hibernians is dedicated to
perpetrating the history and traditions of the Irish people, and to
promoting freedom for all of Ireland; and

WHEREAS, The commemoration of Irish Republic Day serves as a
remembrance, understanding, and celebration of that momentous event, and
of the selfless heroism and integrity of the men and women involved;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize April 24, 2018, as Irish Republic Day; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
