CONGRATULATING Anna E. Tesoriero upon the occasion
of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Anna E. Tesoriero upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday
to be celebrated with a party held in her honor at Garguilo's
Restaurant, Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, April 29, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Anna E. Gentile was born on May 3, 1918, and raised in Bay
Ridge, Brooklyn, New York; her parents, Josephine and Antonio Gentile,
owned a fruit and vegetable store at 54th Street, Brooklyn, New York,
where the family worked; and
WHEREAS, She attended P.S. 94 and Bay Ridge Girls High School; in
the early days, Anna worked as a sales clerk in a hat shop on Fifth
Avenue called Germaine's; and
WHEREAS, On June 4, 1944, Anna married her sweetheart, Dominick
Tesoriero, who was a pressure tank draftsman; together, they had two
daughters, Carol and Janet; today, Anna is the loving grandmother of
nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Anna E. Tesoriero was always active in her parish of St.
Anselm, her girls attended St. Anselm School; she was one of the many
school parents who were instrumental in founding St. Anselm Youth
Activities in the 1960s; she served many years on the St. Anselm Youth
Activities Executive Board and ran the St. Anselm Girl Scouts for over
30 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Anna E. Tesoriero was a member of St. Anselm
Bowling League for several years, until Leemark Lanes in Bay Ridge
closed; she continued bowling until the tender age of 90; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Anna E. Tesoriero worked as a Real Estate
Salesperson selling houses at Hamilton Estate Company, which was owned
by her sister, Lillian Gentile; and
WHEREAS, She was part of the Steering Committee of the 86h BID
during 1999-2000 and has been a Board Member since the corporate
formation for the past 20 years; her lifetime of sharp negotiating
skills is still actively employed to this day; and
WHEREAS, Anna E. Tesoriero resides in Bay Ridge and is a member of
St. Anselm Young At Heart; she is a lifetime parishioner of her beloved
parish, St. Anselm, and still today, rarely misses her weekly card games
at St. Anthanasius; and
WHEREAS, Anna E. Tesoriero with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Anna E. Tesoriero has enriched the lives of those around
her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the
quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years;
and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; she owes her long, happy and
fulfilled life to her family, her cat, Blackie, Bay Ridge and God; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Anna E. Tesoriero upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anna E. Tesoriero.
