HONORING Dr. Francis and Nina DeVito upon the
occasion of their designation for special
recognition by Fontbonne Hall Academy on April 21,
2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dr. Francis and Nina DeVito upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Fontbonne Hall Academy, to be celebrated at its
Diamonds and Pearls 80th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, April 21, 2018,
at the El Caribe Country Club, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Nina Milazzo was the fifth child born to Antonino and
Concetta Milazzo in Montreal, Canada; her family were parishioners at
Our Lady of Pompeii parish, and she graduated from St. Pius X High
School before attending McGill University; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Nina DeVito worked for
the Royal Bank of Canada where she ultimately became an account manager;
she left Canada in 1989, when she married Dr. Francis DeVito and went on
to become an Assistant Vice President for Bankers Trust on Wall Street;
and
WHEREAS, After taking time off to raise their children, Nina DeVito
returned to the work force in 2002, becoming the practice manager for
DeVito and Alvarado Pediatric Associates, PLLC; today, she manages their
two locations and oversees more than 30 employees; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, Francis DeVito is
the second child and only son of Anthony and Josephine DeVito; his
family were parishioners at St. Francis of Xavier Roman Catholic Church
and he attended Xaverian High School; and
WHEREAS, With a lifelong dream to become a pediatrician, Francis
DeVito received his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University; he
went on to attend St. George's University School of Medicine and
completed his pediatric training at St. Vincent's Medical Center in
1989; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Francis DeVito has been in private practice since 1989,
and is currently co-owner of DeVito and Alvarado Pediatric Associates,
PLLC, with seven doctors and two offices; and
WHEREAS, A past president of the Medical Society of Bay Ridge,
Brooklyn Pediatric Society, Dr. Francis DeVito also serves as the
President of New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Park
Slope; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Francis DeVito teaches medical students
through his faculty appointments as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics
for St. George's University School of Medicine and Weill Cornell
Medicine; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their three daughters,
Andrea, Lauren and Michela, who have all shown them love and support and
rejoice in their many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. Francis and Nina DeVito
have displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Francis and Nina DeVito upon the occasion of their designation
for special recognition by Fontbonne Hall Academy on April 21, 2018; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Francis and Nina DeVito.
