HONORING Jan Malof upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Ignite Award by the
Women's Business Center at Canisius College on March
28, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community and their profession; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jan Malof upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Ignite Award by the Women's Business Center at Canisius College
celebrated at its Second Annual Award Luncheon in the Science Hall
Commons at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award recognizes local women business
owners who continue to reach levels of great success through hard work
and determination; and

WHEREAS, The Women's Business Center (WBC) at Canisius College
strives to help women-owned businesses learn to grow by giving them the
tools and connections they need to achieve the success they desire; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, women-owned businesses employed nearly nine
million people and generated over $1.6 trillion in annual revenues;
since 2007, women-owned businesses saw a 35% increase in revenues,
compared to the national average of all firms which was 27%; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Buffalo for almost 30 years, Jan Malof began
her career as a sales associate to launch a new division of Prentice
Office Environments; in 2006, she received her Women-Owned Business
Enterprise (WBE) certification and decided to create a new division and
partnership with Prentice Office Environments as majority owner; and

WHEREAS, Jan Malof has been the sole owner of Prentice Office
Environments in Buffalo since 2014; located in a 19th-century mansion in
the Historic Allentown district, the company is committed to the WNY
community and is proud to be part of the current Buffalo Renaissance;
and

WHEREAS, The success of Prentice Office Environments is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, Within every community, there are inevitably some
individuals who, by virtue of their energy, vision, and dedication,
command the greatest respect among their friends and colleagues, and
within the community at large; Jan Malof is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend
individuals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and
commitment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and
young people; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jan Malof upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Ignite Award by the Women's Business Center at Canisius College on March
28, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jan Malof.
