HONORING Patie Nastro-Ventre upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2018 Oscar Award
by the Bay Improvement Group (BIG) on April 19, 2018
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Patie Nastro-Ventre upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2018 Oscar Award by the Bay Improvement Group (BIG) to be celebrated
at its Awards Dinner for Distinguished Community Service on Thursday,
April 19, 2018, at Il Fornetto in Sheepshead Bay, New York; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award recognizes those individuals who
serve and contribute to the Brooklyn community; Patie Nastro-Ventre is
truly deserving of this commendation; and
WHEREAS, Patie Nastro-Ventre was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn,
where she attended grammar school at Our Lady of Guadalupe; she earned
her Bachelor in Fine Arts degree from NYU Washington Square, and her
Bachelor in Fine Arts Graphic Design from Parsons School of Design; she
furthered her education by taking graduate classes at Columbia
University, St. Johns University, and Touro College; and
WHEREAS, A talented performer, Patie Nastro-Ventre was a roller
skating champion in pairs and dance from the young age of nine to 20
years-old; during her 30s, she was an International Ballroom dance
champion representing dance studios such as Fred Astaire and Arthur
Murray in New York City; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Patie Nastro-Ventre, and her family moved to
Sheepshead Bay, where they have lived ever since; and
WHEREAS, Patie Nastro-Ventre became a member of the Brooklyn Yacht
Club in 1985; for the next 15 years, she served as Fleet Captain,
winning awards for the Club in United Inter Yacht Club Blessing of the
Fleet Competitions; from 2000-2006, she held the title of Commander of
United Inter Yacht Club; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Patie Nastro-Ventre joined the Hudson River Yacht
Club at the invitation of the Commodore as the first woman member of
this over 100 year-old Club; today, she is the Club's only female boat
captain; and
WHEREAS, From 1977-1986, Patie Nastro-Ventre owned and operated
Tankoos & Ventre Advertising Agency; she then owned Ventre Advertising
Inc., a global elite business to business ad agency/PR firm; and
WHEREAS, Patie Nastro-Ventre created WCFO, LLC in 1999; it was
founded to globally promote the joys and fun of responsible pet
ownership through musical canine freestyle, both as a sport and an
entertainment medium; some day, she hopes to compete in the Olympics;
and
WHEREAS, From this corporation came the World Canine Freestyle
Organization (WCFO, INC.) which was created to govern the sport of
dancing with dogs worldwide; it is the only organization to achieve
501(c)(3) public charity status in the world of dog/people sports; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with WCFO, INC., Patie
Nastro-Ventre returned to her alma mater, Our Lady of Guadalupe, in 2006
to teach technology, a position she would hold for seven years; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband and their son,
both of whom have shown her love and support and rejoice in her many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Patie Nastro-Ventre upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2018 Oscar Award by the Bay Improvement Group (BIG);
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Patie Nastro-Ventre.
