COMMEMORATING the 70th Anniversary of the Cerebral
Palsy Association of Nassau County to be celebrated
on May 4, 2018
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to
recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of
society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the
basic humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
70th Anniversary of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, to
be celebrated on Friday, May 4, 2018, in Roosevelt, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County is a
not-for-profit health agency serving over 1,800 children and adults with
cerebral palsy, developmental and other disabilities; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization had its beginnings in 1945, when
what was then known as the Spastic Paralysis Society of Long Island
hosted a meeting at Lynbrook High School; in attendance was a small
group of parents of children with cerebral palsy, a condition of which
little was known at this time; and
WHEREAS, Together, the families rented space, hired a teacher and a
physician, and began a program which would ultimately receive
international recognition for its innovative and outstanding services;
and
WHEREAS, The Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County was
officially incorporated on April 19, 1948, and four years later, thanks
to many generous contributors and volunteers, its building was opened as
the first comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation center for people
with cerebral palsy; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County's
complex now sits on more than 14 acres; several wings were added to the
original building including an adapted swimming pool and an adapted
outdoor recreation area; and
WHEREAS, The current campus also includes The Lindner Pavilion,
which offers extensive medical, dental and other outpatient services; an
adult day treatment center, an inclusive day care center and a respite
house; and
WHEREAS, Off campus, an intermediate care facility, a skilled
nursing facility and many residences in the community form the expanding
network of supports designed to foster maximum independence and
productivity for each individual in the agency's care; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 70-year history, the Cerebral Palsy
Association of Nassau County has demonstrated continuous service to the
residents and communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau
County is in direct correlation to the efforts of its staff and
volunteers, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by
an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization
and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Cerebral Palsy
Association of Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Cerebral Palsy Association of
Nassau County to be celebrated on May 4, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.
