HONORING the Albany Police Department upon the
occasion of its designation as the recipient of the
2018 Community Champion Award by the Trinity
Alliance of the Capital Region

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the Albany Police Department upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2018 Community Champion Award by the Trinity Alliance
of the Capital Region, to be celebrated at its Annual Gala, "Time,
Tradition, Trinity," on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the New York State
Museum, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Albany Police Department, through its steadfast
implementation of community policing, has truly made Albany, New York, a
better and safer place to live, work and play; and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Acting Chief Robert Sears, the
Albany Police Department has adopted a full range of more than 20 trauma
informed, community policing policies, protocols and system-wide
training initiatives; and

WHEREAS, The Albany Police Department strongly supports Trinity
Alliance's violence prevention program; and

WHEREAS, In addition, with an unwavering commitment to its
community, the Albany Police Department established mental health, first
aid, and trauma informed care training, as well as a Neighborhood
Engagement Unit and Youth Cadet Program; and

WHEREAS, The Albany Police Department's national leadership and
championing of policies is the thread which ties residents of this great
community with those entrusted in protecting public safety; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished history, the Albany Police
Department has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Albany Police Department is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its officers, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Albany Police
Department; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Albany Police Department upon the occasion of its designation
as recipient of the 2018 Community Champion Award by the Trinity
Alliance of the Capital Region; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Acting Chief Robert Sears, Albany Police Department.
