HONORING Marisa Jacques upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Monsignor Burns
Award by Catholic Central High School on April 23,
2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Marisa Jacques upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Monsignor Burns Award by Catholic Central High School, to be celebrated
at its 32nd Annual Monsignor Burns Award Dinner on Monday, April 23,
2018, at the Century House, Latham, New York; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1923 by Bishop Edmund F. Gibbons, Catholic
Central High School is a coeducational, college preparatory school
educating more than 300 students in grades 7 through 12; located in
North Troy, its diverse student body hails from 35 surrounding school
districts; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Troy, New York, Marisa Jacques
attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1998 graduate of Catholic Central
High School; she fell in love with broadcast journalism at a young age
and fell in love with sports at an even younger age; and

WHEREAS, Marisa Jacques went on to attend Union College, during
which time she worked at NBC Sports in New York City before completing
an internship at a local station; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Marisa Jacques began
her career with Capital News 9 as an Associate Producer in news and was
promoted to Producer just one year later; and

WHEREAS, Marisa Jacques' first story as a reporter, was when she
travelled with a group of doctors from New York to El Salvador; the
group ran medical clinics throughout the country for people who could
not afford medical care; and

WHEREAS, As the sole media member on the trip, Marisa Jacques filmed
and edited the documentary which she produced for the station as a
five-part series; and

WHEREAS, Marisa Jacques was then offered the opportunity to be a
sideline reporter at high school football and basketball games for Time
Warner Cable Sports, working on the news side by day and sports by
night; and

WHEREAS, Marisa Jacques was promoted to Senior Producer in 2005,
taking over the morning show at the station while continuing to be on

the sidelines of local sporting events; one year later, she moved into
the Sports Department at Capital News 9 full-time as the Weekend Sports
Anchor; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, Marisa Jacques was promoted to Sports Director,
the esteemed position she continues to hold today; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious tenure thus far, Marisa Jacques
has had the opportunity to travel extensively, covering local and
professional teams at statewide and national events; furthermore,
working for the company's sister station in New York City, NY1, she
became the first female to host their hour long sports show; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Marisa Jacques upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Monsignor Burns Award by Catholic Central High School on April
23, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Marisa Jacques.
