LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTIONhonoring Kathleen Jimino upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Monsignor Burns Award by Catholic Central High
School on April 23, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathleen Jimino upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Monsignor Burns Award by Catholic Central High School, to be celebrated
at its 32nd Annual Monsignor Burns Dinner on Monday, April 23, 2018, at
the Century House, Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1923 by Bishop Edmund F. Gibbons, Catholic
Central High School is a coeducational, college preparatory school
educating more than 300 students in grades 7 through 12; located in
North Troy, its diverse student body hails from 35 surrounding school
districts; and
WHEREAS, The fourth of six children born to Sophia and John Madden,
Kathleen Jimino was raised on the east side of Troy, and currently
resides in Lansingburgh with her husband; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Jimino was educated at Catholic Central High
School, and Siena College, from where she graduated cum laude with a
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics; additionally, she received her
Master's degree in Social Policy from SUNY Empire State College; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Kathleen Jimino went to
work for Rensselaer County in the information technology department
where she held several positions prior to being named its Commissioner;
and
WHEREAS, Soon thereafter, Kathleen Jimino served as the City of
Troy's Budget Director and later City Manager; in recognition of her
service in this capacity, she was awarded the Frank C. Moore Award for
her leadership and dedication in managing the City of Troy during a
period of major fiscal crisis; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Kathleen Jimino served as a Principal Analyst for
the New York State Senate Finance Committee, and later was named
Assistant Director of the Office of Budget Studies; one year later, she
accepted an appointment and was subsequently elected to the Rensselaer
County Legislature; and
WHEREAS, Quickly making her mark in the Legislature, Kathleen Jimino
chaired the Aging Committee as well as a special committee which
targeted the tobacco prevention funding in the County; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Jimino was appointed County Executive in 2001; six
months later the voters of Rensselaer County approved her appointment by
electing her by the largest margin ever afforded any Rensselaer County
Executive in history; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious tenure, Kathleen Jimino was
steadfastly committed to the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and drug
abuse; she was also noted for the aggressive advocating for new
businesses in the County, and encouraging expansion for the ones who
already called the County their home; and
WHEREAS, Among other governmental responsibilities, Kathleen Jimino
served as Co-Chair of the Center for Economic Growth's Local Government
Council and was on the Board of the New York State Association of
Counties (NYSAC), and the National Association of Counties (NACo); she
currently serves on the board of the Commission on Economic Opportunity
and WMHT; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, Vince, with her throughout have
been her two children and two grandchildren, who have all shown her love
and support and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathleen Jimino upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Monsignor Burns Award by Catholic Central High School on April
23, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kathleen Jimino.
