HONORING Andrew Magowan upon the occasion of his
designation as the 2017 Player of the Year by the
Brooklyn Shamrocks GFC

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Andrew Magowan upon the occasion of his designation as the 2017 Player
of the Year by the Brooklyn Shamrocks GFC, to be celebrated at its 41st
Annual Dinner Dance on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Bay Ridge Manor,
Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Magowan hails from the Lissummon Club in County
Armagh, Ireland; growing up, he balanced both the oval and round ball
lining out in Gaelic football for his club and representing Armagh rugby
club and later Sheffield University RFC; and

WHEREAS, Relocating to New York City in 2015, Andrew Magowan works
for First Derivatives as a consultant in Bank of America; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Magowan was a key member of the victorious Brooklyn
Shamrocks GAA Junior A Championship winning team of 2015, and last
season he was a central figure on the Shamrock's team that took Longford
to a championship semi-final replay; and

WHEREAS, An accomplished kicker, Andrew Magowan managed some key
scores for the Shamrocks in 2017, including a 55 yard free kick to win a
crucial game versus Rockland; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Magowan's ability to win possession, as well as his
tireless hard work and unwavering commitment to the cause makes him a
most worthy recipient of the 2017 Player of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Andrew Magowan upon the occasion of his designation as the 2017
Player of the Year by the Brooklyn Shamrocks GFC; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Andrew Magowan.
