HONORING Nan Lanahan upon the occasion of her
retirement after 30 years of dedicated service to
the Town of Bethlehem's Department of Parks and
Recreation
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nan Lanahan upon the occasion of her retirement after 30 years of
dedicated service to the Town of Bethlehem's Department of Parks and
Recreation; and
WHEREAS, After three decades of service with the Town of Bethlehem's
Department of Parks and Recreation, more than half as its Administrator,
Nan Lanahan has retired; and
WHEREAS, Nan Lanahan began working for the Town of Bethlehem in
1988; under her able leadership, the number of parks has grown from six
to eight, play areas have been improved, and new technologies have
allowed residents to register for programs or reserve park space with
greater ease; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Nan Lanahan served the Department of
Parks and Recreation with intelligence and caring dedication,
continuously striving to effectively fulfill the duties of her position;
and
WHEREAS, Nan Lanahan has truly laid the foundation for long term
success with the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, released in 2015,
which provides a framework for what will be accomplished in the coming
years; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she was instrumental in the establishment of
the Friends of Bethlehem Parks and Recreation, a nonprofit group
dedicated to improving recreational programming and access to the town's
parks by raising funds, organizing volunteers and increasing awareness;
and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Nan Lanahan, the Town of
Bethlehem's Department of Parks and Recreation now offers a variety of
programs, some of which include yoga, tennis, softball, swimming and
gardening for kids, as well as kayak and canoe rentals; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Department offers countless summer camps
and weekly children's entertainment, biking events, and senior health
and fitness day; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with
whom she worked, Nan Lanahan will be remembered for her honesty,
integrity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of
human problems in her official acts; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership/intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Nan Lanahan over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication
to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nan Lanahan upon the occasion of her retirement after 30 years of
dedicated service to the Town of Bethlehem's Department of Parks and
Recreation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nan Lanahan.
