HONORING The New York Bar Foundation upon the
occasion of its designation as recipient of the
Swyer Companies Corporate Leadership Award by The
Legal Project on April 27, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those legal professionals from across the
State of New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to
the community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
The New York Bar Foundation upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Swyer Companies Corporate Leadership Award by The Legal
Project, to be celebrated at its Awards Luncheon on Friday, April 27,
2018, at The Century House, Latham, New York; and

WHEREAS, Founded by the Capital District Women's Bar Association in
1995, The Legal Project is a private, not-for-profit organization which
provides a variety of free and low cost legal services to the working
poor, victims of domestic violence and other underserved individuals in
the Capital District of New York State; and

WHEREAS, The New York Bar Foundation was established in 1950, and is
a nonprofit, philanthropic organization dedicated to aiding educational,
direct legal services, and charitable projects aimed at meeting the
law-related needs of the public and the profession; and

WHEREAS, The Foundation also raises funds to assist in giving legal
voices to those who feel they have none and strives to provide access to
justice to as many people across New York State as possible; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this vital organization increases public
understanding of the law, improves the justice system and the law,
facilitates the delivery of legal services, and enhances professional
competence and ethics; and

WHEREAS, The New York Bar Foundation has provided millions of
dollars in grants to hundreds of non-profit organizations across New
York which provide desperately needed legal services to those who are
without means themselves to obtain the services of counsel; and

WHEREAS, These grants address the core needs of our society
including poverty, homelessness, lack of access to civil legal services,
and the challenges of immigrants; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 68-year history, The New York Bar
Foundation has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of The New York Bar Foundation is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled

enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor The New York Bar Foundation upon the occasion of its designation
as recipient of the Swyer Companies Corporate Leadership Award by The
Legal Project on April 27, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The New York Bar Foundation.
