COMMENDING Stuart S. Friedman upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished
service as Executive Director of the Suffolk County
Medical Society
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Stuart S. Friedman upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service as Executive Director of the Suffolk
County Medical Society, to be celebrated with a Retirement Dinner in his
honor on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Wind Watch Golf Club,
Hauppauge, New York; and
WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, Stuart S. Friedman rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Suffolk County
Medical Society; he will officially retire on February 24, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as Stu, Stuart S. Friedman received
his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University
and went on to earn his Master's degree in Health Care Administration
from CW Post; and
WHEREAS, Early on in his career, Stuart S. Friedman worked for
Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Relationship Representative and
Institutional Representative before moving on to the Medical Society of
the State of New York (MSSNY) where he served as the Associate Director
in the Division of Socio-Medical Economics; and
WHEREAS, In July of 1991, Stuart S. Friedman left MSSNY to become
the Executive Director of the Suffolk County Medical Society; during his
tenure, he was instrumental in the Society becoming the premier
professional society for physicians in Suffolk County; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering dedication to the Suffolk
County Medical Society, Stuart S. Friedman gave more than two decades of
his time and energies to achieving the best results for the physicians
within Suffolk County; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Stuart S. Friedman, the
Suffolk County Medical Society became the first in New York State to
establish institutional membership for hospital medical staff, setting
the protocol for others to follow; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the membership of the Suffolk County Medical
Society blossomed to more than 1,650 physicians with four hospitals in
Suffolk County participating in its institutional membership; and
WHEREAS, Stuart S. Friedman also initiated the legislative breakfast
for Suffolk County legislators where twice a year, legislators and
physicians engage in discussions on healthcare issues facing patients
and physicians alike; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Executive Director, Stuart S. Friedman
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, earning him the admiration,
esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 49 years, Maryse,
and their two sons, Justin (Amy) and Scott (Janine), as well as four
grandchildren, Leyna, Noah, Benjamin and Jack, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Stuart S. Friedman over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Stuart S. Friedman upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service as Executive Director of the Suffolk
County Medical Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Stuart S. Friedman.
