HONORING Christian Walker upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Youth Award by The
Brooklyn Club of the National Association of Negro
Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Christian Walker upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Youth Award by The Brooklyn Club of the National Association of
Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., to be celebrated at
its 51st Annual Founders' Day Observance, "Empowering Communities and
Shaping Lives," on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Gargiulo's Restaurant,
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Christian Walker is an ambitious, hard-working, dedicated
young man with dreams of becoming a math teacher or forensic scientist;
and
WHEREAS, From a very young age, Christian Walker has been interested
in the complex attraction of numbers and technical data; much of his
affinity for math and science comes from his advanced interactions with
computers and technology; and
WHEREAS, Christian Walker attended Public School 8 and Math and
Science Exploratory (MS447), where he excelled academically; this
rigorous education prepared him for his acceptance to Brooklyn
Millennium High School, where he continues to flourish, taking advanced
placement classes and participating in a variety of extracurricular
activities; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious high school career Christian
Walker was a member of the swim team, photography club, travel club,
National Honor Society and theatrical arts; he has performed laudably in
productions of "Crazytown" and "Peter Pan"; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was part of the Bridges to Computing
program in conjunction with Brooklyn College, where he was able to
pursue college credits while learning about computers and coding; and
WHEREAS, Christian Walker was also instrumental in the Puppetry Arts
Project, assisting with the set-up and clean-up of the Park Slope
Festival for three consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, As Christian Walker takes his leave of Brooklyn Millennium
High School, he bequeaths a legacy of academic achievement, school
involvement and community service to which others may aspire; he is
currently making his final decisions on which of the 14 college
acceptances he will attend; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his parents, Dr. Tyrone
Walker and Precious Jones-Walker, and his sister, Paige, who have all
shown him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Christian Walker stands poised on the threshold of a broad
and challenging world; a testament to the love and nurturing care of his
family, friends and school; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Christian Walker, a
young man and able scholar, recognizing the value of his labors and the
promise of his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Christian Walker upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Youth Award by The Brooklyn Club of the National Association of
Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Christian Walker.
