HONORING Douglas Jablon upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2018 Bishop's Good
Scout Award on May 1, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to honor Douglas Jablon upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2018 Bishop's Good
Scout Award to be celebrated at the Annual Bishop DiMarzio's Dinner on
Scouting on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at El Caribe Country Club in Brooklyn,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Douglas Jablon has been called upon to contribute both his
time and talents to countless civic endeavors and has given of himself
unselfishly as the Special Assistant to the President, and Executive
Vice President of Patient Relations, Public Communications as well as
Volunteer and Student Services for Maimonides Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Douglas Jablon earned his master's degree in Education,
Guidance and Counseling from Long Island University; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 40 years of service to Maimonides Medical
Center and the communities it serves, Douglas Jablon has earned the love
and respect of patients, doctors, nurses, employees and administration;
as an advocate for patient care and patients rights and professional
courteous customer service, he is involved in every aspect of care
provided by the Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Douglas Jablon serves as the "sounding board" for patient,
family and community concerns, a job most fitting for someone who has a
genuine concern for people; he and his dedicated Patient Relations
staff, focus on the special comfort, social, economic and cultural needs
of the patients' and their families with compassion and sensitivity; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Patient Relations, Douglas Jablon oversees
the activities of over 1,800 Maimonides Medical Center volunteers, holds
the title of Senior Vice President, and is responsible for the newly
designed Public Communications Department which will further his
commitment to quality and compassionate patient care; and
WHEREAS, Douglas Jablon truly loves people and enjoys getting to
know them on a personal level; for his steadfast and unremitting
commitment to the hospital and the well-being of its patients, he was
the recipient of the 2011 Aron Medal; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Edy; their three
children, Yitzy, Bonnie Pearl and Melissa; and their 12 grandchildren,
Chana Tova, Esther Malka, Chaya Sara, Asher, Raizy, Shloimy, Binyomin
Zev, Sara, Rachel Leah, Chana Devorah, Asher, and Hindy, all of whom
have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements;
and
WHEREAS, Douglas Jablon's dedication to his community and to
scouting has had a lasting impact on the Brooklyn community; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Douglas Jablon has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments come to our
attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Douglas Jablon upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2018 Bishop's Good Scout Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Douglas Jablon.
