HONORING John DeLosa upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2018 Bishop's Good
Scout Award on May 1, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to honor John
DeLosa upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2018
Bishop's Good Scout Award to be celebrated at the Annual Bishop
DiMarzio's Dinner on Scouting on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at El Caribe
Country Club in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn,
John DeLosa attended Saint Paul's Elementary School, Bishop Loughlin
Memorial High School and Manhattan College; he holds a Federal
Communications Electronics License, along with certificates in fire
suppression, occupational safety and ASHE Heath Care Construction; and

WHEREAS, Since 1984, John DeLosa has worked as a construction
executive; currently, he holds the title of Chief of Field Operations
and co-owner of Long & DeLosa Construction Group, Ltd.; and

WHEREAS, John DeLosa has been called upon to contribute both his
time and talents to countless civic endeavors and has given of himself
unselfishly by helping to raise funds for American Legion Baseball,
Heart Share Human Services, St. Jude's Children's Foundation, Ronald
McDonald House, F.I.A.O. and Maimonides Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, This generous man is the Secretary and past President of
the Bensonhurst Bay Ridge Kiwanis Club; he also held leadership
positions with both the Bay Ridge Development Corporation and the
Brooklyn Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, A true philanthropist, John DeLosa and his partner, Brian
Long, founded the Annual Celebration of Lights, now in its 24th year of
raising funds for education in Brooklyn; co-sponsored by Maimonides
Center, this Christmas Tree and Nativity Lighting Event started at the
Visitation Monastery and has grown to 38 Parishes throughout Brooklyn;
John also serves on its Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, An avid hockey fan, John DeLosa began coaching youth ice
hockey in 1995; today, he is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach; in
the past, he served as Vice President of the Greater New York Ice Hockey
League and Tournament Director of the Long Island Ice Hockey
Association; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 34 years, Evelyn,
their two sons, Michael (Nicole) and Joseph (Danielle), and their two

granddaughters, Velouria and Valencia, all of whom have shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, John DeLosa's dedication to his community and to Scouting
has had a lasting impact on the borough of Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which John DeLosa has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments come to our
attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John DeLosa upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2018 Bishop's Good Scout Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John DeLosa.
