HONORING Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding upon the
occasion of her retirement after more than 30 years
of dedicated service as an educator
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding upon the occasion of her retirement after
more than 30 years of dedicated service as an educator, to be celebrated
with a Party in her honor on June 14, 2018, at P12, Lynbrook, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Queens, New York, Vanessa Helen
Miles-Gooding graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Public Health Administration and Queens College with a
Master's degree in Elementary Education and Media Technology; and
WHEREAS, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding went on to attend the College
of Saint Rose where she obtained a certificate and license in Elementary
Administration and District supervision; and
WHEREAS, Upon her graduation from Rutgers University, Vanessa Helen
Miles-Gooding married her childhood sweetheart, Shawn; and
WHEREAS, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding began her illustrious career in
education as a substitute teacher for the Department of Education in
1984, before obtaining a full-time position as a Science teacher at
Allen Christian School in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, After ten years, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding left Allen
Christian School to pursue a full-time career with the Department of
Education at P.S. 273 in Brooklyn, and then returned to her community to
work at P.S. 251Q; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding served as an
Academic Intervention teacher and Reading Specialist for at-risk
students; she has also served as the Test Coordinator team leader and as
UFT Chapter Leader for the past nine years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding was instrumental
in the successful implementation of the school's Positive Behavior
Intervention System (P.B.I.S.); and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding enjoys making pies for a local
charity which feeds the less fortunate during Thanksgiving; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, Shawn, with her throughout have
been her two sons, Duvalle and Devin, a daughter-in-law, Jade, and two
grandchildren, Aria and Malcolm, who have all shown her love and support
and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding provide a
tremendous service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring
generations of young people in their educational journeys and ensuring
their success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding brought
an uncompromising standard of excellence to her work and a warm sense of
caring and concern to every young person she educated; and
WHEREAS, In completing her service as an educator, Vanessa Helen
Miles-Gooding leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; she leaves
behind a legacy to the students of P.S. 251Q and to the residents of the
Queens community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding upon the occasion of her retirement,
and to wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Vanessa Helen Miles-Gooding.
