HONORING Edward Neary upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Third Age
Achievement Award for Health and Human Services by
the Senior Services of Albany

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Edward Neary upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Third Age Achievement Award for Health and Human Services by the Senior
Services of Albany, to be celebrated at its 22nd Annual Awards Luncheon
on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Wolferts Roost Country Club, Albany, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the
contributions that area residents and professionals have made in their
communities during the Third Age of their lives; Edward Neary will
receive this award for his valuable achievements and devoted service to
his community after the age of 60; and

WHEREAS, Edward Neary retired from his position as Executive
Director of Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc. on July 31, 2017,
exactly 16 years to the day after he started; and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Edward Neary, Colonie Senior
Service Centers' revenue significantly increased; and

WHEREAS, Edward Neary was also instrumental in the expansion of the
Bright Horizons, Umbrella of Colonie, ToolBox, Driver Fitness Centers,
Financial Resource Center, and RSVP, as well as the development of
Sheehy Manor, Beltrone Living Center and King Thiel Senior Communities,
serving over 500 seniors with low cost housing; and

WHEREAS, In addition, his extraordinary staff teamed up with CAPCOM
FCU and the community to create the Warmth of Wine fundraiser to help
senior citizens pay their heating bills; and

WHEREAS, An avid Yankees and Jets fan, Edward Neary enjoys golfing,
gardening, and vacationing with his family in Ocean City and the Finger
Lakes; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Mary Jean, as well
as their four children and eight grandchildren, who have all shown him
love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent

of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Edward Neary, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Edward Neary upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Third Age Achievement Award for Health and Human Services by the
Senior Services of Albany; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Edward Neary.
