HONORING Bernadette Mayersohn upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Third Age
Achievement Award for Volunteerism by the Senior
Services of Albany

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Bernadette Mayersohn upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Third Age Achievement Award for Volunteerism by the Senior
Services of Albany, to be celebrated at its 22nd Annual Awards Luncheon
on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Wolferts Roost Country Club, Albany, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the
contributions that area residents and professionals have made in their
communities during the Third Age of their lives; Bernadette Mayersohn
will receive this award for her valuable achievements and devoted
service to her community after the age of 60; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, Bernadette "Bernie" Mayersohn has given tirelessly of her
time and energies to helping others; she was Chair of the Metropolitan
Division for the United Way while serving as a Red Cross volunteer to
help advance their mission; and

WHEREAS, A board member at the American Red Cross, Bernadette
Mayersohn also chaired numerous committees and remains a Trustee
Emeriti; in recognition of her efforts, the American Red Cross
Association awarded her with the regional Standish Award, the national
Clara Barton Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, Bernadette Mayersohn has also devoted time to Northeast
Health as a board member, events chair, and is currently a Trustee
Emeriti; subsequently, in 2007, the Hospital awarded her the Founders
Award for her service; and

WHEREAS, While volunteering at the Albany County Historical
Foundation, Bernadette Mayersohn was instrumental in the successful
initiation of the Holiday House; she also served as a board member and
continues to be recognized as a Trustee Emeriti; and

WHEREAS, In her spare time, Bernadette Mayersohn loves the company
of family and good friends, traveling and reading; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Bernadette Mayersohn, that future generations may know and appreciate
her admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bernadette Mayersohn upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Third Age Achievement Award for Volunteerism by the
Senior Services of Albany; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bernadette Mayersohn.
