HONORING Joseph Wright upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Washington County
Senior of the Year Award on May 11, 2018
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
senior citizens of the Empire State who, as they reach the fullness of
years, continue to be active and vital participants in the life of their
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph Wright upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Washington County Senior of the Year Award, to be celebrated on Friday,
May 11, 2018, at the Kingsbury Firehouse, Hudson Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Hudson Falls, New York, Joseph Wright
valiantly served his country as an Aviation Jet Mechanic in the United
States Navy during the Vietnam War; during this time, he also earned his
GED diploma; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Wright went on to attend Adirondack Community
College where he studied business law and business communication; he was
also awarded an Honorary Diploma from Fort Ann Central School; and
WHEREAS, In 1966, Joseph married the love of his life, Wanda, and
one year later the couple settled in Fort Ann, New York, where they
raised five children; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Joseph Wright has served as Honor Guard at the Saratoga
National Cemetery since 2011; he has also been a member of the Raymond
W. Harvey Post 703 American Legion of Fort Ann; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he served as a group leader at the United
Methodist Church and chaperoned several dances at Fort Ann Central
School; he coached Community League baseball for Fort Ann and was also
Fort Ann Central School's Booster Club vice-president; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the West Fort Ann Volunteer Fire Department,
Joseph Wright served as Fire Police Captain, President, Lieutenant and
was also an interior fire fighter; in 2012, he became a member of the
Fort Ann Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a Fire Police Captain,
President, Chairman of Kitchen and President of the Firemen's Support
Group; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Wright has been active with the Boy Scouts of
America since 1986, serving in such capacities as Cub Scout Leader, Cub
Master, Committee Chairman, Boy Scout leader pack 43 Troop 46 of Fort
Ann, Merit Badge Counselor, and Assistant Scout Master; additionally, 21
members of his troop have become Eagle Scouts; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Joseph Wright has been
instrumental in engaging children in worthwhile activities and teaching
them respect for others; he has mentored youth on his personal values of
honesty, patriotism, community service, and compassion; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Joseph Wright has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Wright has enriched the lives of his family, friends
and colleagues through his love and respect for others, and through the
wisdom which comes from many years of living life to the fullest; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Wright upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Washington County Senior of the Year Award on May 11, 2018; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joseph Wright.
