COMMENDING the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce upon
the occasion of hosting BROOKLYN DESIGNS on May 12,
2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
events of artistic significance which highlight the creative talents
that have contributed to the cultural enrichment of our communities and
our Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion of hosting
BROOKLYN DESIGNS on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Brooklyn Museum; and
WHEREAS, BROOKLYN DESIGNS is Brooklyn's premier design event
showcasing a cross section of design, architecture and art; and
WHEREAS, Founded by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in 2003,
BROOKLYN DESIGNS was one of the first design fairs to shine a spotlight
on the creative economy in Brooklyn; it also serves as an incubator for
emerging designers and a platform for established brands, producing a
range of creative products across furniture, lighting, tableware, art,
textiles and jewelry; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating the collaborative spirit of design, BROOKLYN
DESIGNS features inspiring collective exhibits, pop-up lounges,
installations, hands-on demos and a diverse conference program; in
addition, the show displays an exciting array of products, including
many that have received Brooklyn-Made certification by the Brooklyn
Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, BROOKLYN DESIGNS also features cafes and bars from
Brooklyn's beloved vendors as well as family-friendly programming
throughout the weekend; and
WHEREAS, This year's edition of BROOKLYN DESIGNS is an impactful
event on many levels; the venue connects Brooklyn Museum's deep history
with design and decorative arts, to the rich design community that has
developed, grown, and employed countless people in the borough; and
WHEREAS, The show takes place in conjunction with the Brooklyn
Chamber of Commerce's year of Centennial programming, and will also
serve as a farewell celebration for the Chamber's outgoing President and
CEO Andrew Hoan who has been with the Chamber since November of 2012;
and
WHEREAS, Shows like BROOKLYN DESIGNS are vital to promoting the
borough's designers, manufacturers and architects; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the arts
of our Nation, to honor our artists, and to express our appreciation to
everyone who patronizes the arts; as we celebrate the arts, we celebrate
and give thanks to our American freedom, the only atmosphere in which
artists can truly create and in which art is truly the expression of the
soul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion of hosting
BROOKLYN DESIGNS on May 12, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
