HONORING Colonel Peter A. Sicoli upon the occasion
of his Change of Command on May 8, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Colonel
Peter A. Sicoli upon the occasion of his Change of Command to be
celebrated at the Fort Hamilton Citizen Action Committee Meeting on
Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Building 113 at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Since July 27, 2016, Colonel Peter A. Sicoli has served as
the Garrison Commander, United States Army Garrison, Fort Hamilton, New
York; on June 8, 2018, his term will officially expire and he will
assume his new title on July 26, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Born in Astoria, Queens, Peter A. Sicoli moved with his
family to New Hyde Park, New York, at a young age; he was commissioned
as an Armor Officer through ROTC at St. John's University in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Peter A. Sicoli holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
History from St. John's University, a Master of Science degree in
Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Science
degree in National Resource Strategy from National Defense University,
Washington, DC; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, his military education includes Airborne, Air
Assault, and Ranger Schools, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff
Officer Course, the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) and the
Industrial College of the Armed Forces (Eisenhower School); and

WHEREAS, Colonel Peter Sicoli has served in a variety of command and
staff positions in combat brigades throughout the United States and
overseas to include multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan;
and

WHEREAS, Prior to assuming command of the Fort Hamilton Garrison,
Colonel Peter Sicoli served as the Operations Officer (G3) with the 3rd
Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia; he also served as Company
Commander, Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor, 3rd Infantry
Division, Fort Steward, Georgia; and Commander, 1st Battalion, 8th
Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Peter Sicoli awards and decorations include: The
Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal
with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with 6 Oak Leaf

Clusters, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 1 Campaign Star, Iraqi
Campaign Medal with 3 Campaign Stars; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Sharon, and their
two daughters, Kate and Lauren, who have all shown him love and support
and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Colonel Peter A. Sicoli continues to demonstrate his love for his
country and merits forevermore, the highest respect of his State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Colonel Peter A. Sicoli upon the occasion of his Change of Command
on May 8, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Colonel Peter Sicoli.
