HONORING Veronica Blendell upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2018 Mary G.
Breslin Volunteer Service Award by LaSalle School on
May 14, 2018
WHEREAS, The unity of our State and Nation is built upon the
compassion of individuals such as Veronica Blendell who uphold the
values of community life and who, through their great actions, epitomize
the best of humanity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Veronica
Blendell upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2018
Mary G. Breslin Volunteer Service Award by LaSalle School, to be
celebrated on Monday, May 14, 2018, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Veronica "Ronnie" Caimano was born in the area of Albany's
St. Francis of Assisi Church, formerly St. James Church; and
WHEREAS, Upon her graduation from Vincentian Institute, Veronica
Blendell was employed by the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene
and the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS); and
WHEREAS, Veronica and Jim Blendell were united in marriage in
October of 1964, and moved to Delmar before settling in Slingerlands,
New York, where they continue to live today; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Veronica Blendell has spent countless years working with
community organizations, providing support, comfort and continued
education to all age groups; she has been active in LaSalle School's
activities since the early 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Veronica Blendell is a member of the Ladies of Charity and
volunteers at the Sister Maureen Joyce Food Pantry; she is also a former
President of the St. Thomas Rosary Society and former President of the
Garden Study Club of Albany; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the Catholic Women's Service League,
Veronica Blendell has assumed leadership roles and has been instrumental
in guiding the League in its efforts to provide life experiences for
youth and families; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, Jim, with her throughout have
been their four children, Jackie, Sandi, Ronnie and Jimmy, and 10
grandchildren, who have all shown her love and support and rejoice in
her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Veronica Blendell has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Veronica Blendell, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Veronica Blendell upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2018 Mary G. Breslin Volunteer Service Award by LaSalle
School on May 14, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Veronica Blendell.
