HONORING Matthew Gomes upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES on April
26, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Matthew
Gomes upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior
Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated
at its Fifth Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at
Kuhl's Highland House, Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Gomes has distinguished himself as a young man of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Goshen High School, Matthew Gomes will be
attending SUNY Cortland this fall in Cortland, New York; he plans on
majoring in math education and becoming a math teacher; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Matthew Gomes is the Vice President and Tenor II
Section Leader of the Varsity, Jazz, and Concert Choirs, treasurer of
Drama Club, and founding member of "Goshen Half Steps" Men's Ensemble;
and

WHEREAS, Matthew Gomes has participated in three spring musicals and
has portrayed a leading role in the last two; he has also been a member
of Concert, Symphonic and Stage Band as a percussionist/ drummer; during
his four years in high school, he has participated in numerous
performances in All-County Music Festivals; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Matthew Gomes
has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Gomes may stand with pride in his achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he
continues his education; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Gomes represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of his
future; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Matthew Gomes upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and to
wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Matthew Gomes.
