COMMENDING Jean L. Dupuis Sr. posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the United States Postal Service on
May 25, 2018
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jean L. Dupuis Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the United States Postal Service
to be celebrated at its Memorial Day Ceremony on Friday, May 25, 2018,
at the United States Postal Service's General Mail Facility in Colonie,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Rumford, Maine, Jean L. Dupuis Sr. and his parents
moved to Albany, New York, when he was five years old; after graduating
from St. Joseph's Academy High School, Jean enlisted in the United
States Navy Reserves at the age of 17; and
WHEREAS, Jean L. Dupuis Sr. proudly served his country from
1964-1966 aboard the USS Severn during the Vietnam War; he was a ship
hand's serviceman and worked directly with the ship's personnel by
operating and managing resale activities such as ship stores, commissary
stores and Navy Exchange retail stores; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Jean L. Dupuis
Sr. married his high school sweetheart, the former Susan Mastaitis;
together, the couple raised six children; and
WHEREAS, For 20 years, Jean L. Dupuis Sr. worked as a craftsman and
carpenter with his father for their family business, Dupuis Drywall,
taping and sheet rocking; and
WHEREAS, In January of 1980, Jean L. Dupuis Sr. began his long and
distinguished career as a mail processing equipment mechanic with the
United States Postal Service; he officially retired after 25 years of
keeping the post office's machines operating at peak efficiency, and
WHEREAS, Jean L. Dupuis Sr. was a vital part of the Boy Scouts of
America for 31 years, beginning as an active parent when his sons were
young, and then scout leader when they were older; after the boys grew
up, he continued to be a role model for the Scouts serving in many
capacities such as Assistant District Commissioner of the Fort Orange
District of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, When he was not working or helping someone, Jean L. Dupuis
Sr. enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping; and
WHEREAS, Jean L. Dupuis Sr. died on October 10, 2005, at the age of
60; he is survived by his wife, Susan, six children, and 12
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, celebrated
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jean L. Dupuis Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the United States Postal Service
on May 25, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Jean L. Dupuis Sr.
