Senate Resolution No. 5345

COMMENDING Dr. Nelson Moses upon the occasion of
being named a 2018 Hall of Fame Honoree by Making
the Impossible Possible, Inc. on May 27, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Nelson Moses upon the occasion of being named a 2018 Hall of
Fame Honoree by Making the Impossible Possible, Inc., to be celebrated
at its 7th Annual Power of Partnerships, Scholarship and Hall of Fame
Gala on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the BRIC Arts Media, Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 2001, Making the Impossible Possible, Inc.
(MIPO) is a non-profit membership organization, promoting the quality of
life of Haitian youth in the United States and abroad through education,
music, character building, medical care, apprenticeship training, family
support and scholarships; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Dr. Nelson Moses began his long and distinguished
career as a speech clinician with Willowbrook State School in Staten
Island; he then moved on to the New York City Board of Education to
serve "Track 4" programs as a Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped
and demonstration teacher; for the next several years, he taught at
Monmouth College, New York University, Rutgers University, and Long
Island University's (LIU) Brooklyn Campus; and
WHEREAS, Today, Dr. Nelson Moses is both Professor and Director of
the Bilingual Speech-Language Personnel Development Center and Director
of International Programming at LIU, Brooklyn Campus, Department of
Communication Sciences and Disorders; he has organized and participated
in several programs in Russia, Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Haiti;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Nelson Moses is the founder of the
Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Program at LIU, which boasts a unique
focus on cultural and linguistic diversity; Dr. Moses has also published
and presented various topics such as cognition, language disorders,
literacy and supervision; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Dr. Nelson Moses, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity
to express its highest admiration for Dr. Nelson Moses and to wish him
continued success in all of her future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Nelson Moses upon the occasion of being named a 2018 Hall of
Fame Honoree by Making the Impossible Possible, Inc. on May 27, 2018;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Nelson Moses.
