Senate Resolution No. 5363

HONORING Sean Michael Joyce upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2018 Youth of
the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of
Hicksville
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sean Michael Joyce upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2018 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Hicksville;
and
WHEREAS, With this monumental win, Sean Michael Joyce will compete
for the New York State title; and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the
Year Award, recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member's
family, school, and overall community, as well as their perseverance in
overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, A junior at Hicksville High School, Sean Michael Joyce has
maintained Honor Roll and Principals List; he outstandingly earned a 98
on his Global History Regents, and was placed in Advanced Placement
United States History; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he performs in the jazz band, is a member of
the Varsity Baseball Team, and writes for the school newspaper; and
WHEREAS, Sean Michael Joyce has been a vital member of the Boys &
Girls Club of Hicksville for six years; he is a member of Power Hour, a
program within the club dedicated to allocating an organized schedule to
focus on school work; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he is a member of the Triple program, Peer
Counseling program, and serves as a tutor to both his peers and younger
children, hoping to instill his work ethic in others; he has been
instrumental in the success of such events as the yearly Food Drive,
National Kids Day, and the Open Gym program; and
WHEREAS, Sean Michael Joyce's maturity, steadfast dedication, and
his sincere ability to share his thoughts and talents have gained him
much respect within the Boys & Girls Club of Hicksville; and
WHEREAS, Through his active involvement in the community and his
sincere dedication to others, Sean Michael Joyce has become an
exceptional role model for others; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his high school career, Sean Michael
Joyce hopes to major in military science at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sean Michael Joyce upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2018 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club
of Hicksville; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sean Michael Joyce.
