COMMENDING Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc. upon
the occasion of hosting its 21st Annual Stand for
Children Day Celebration on June 1, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its 21st Annual Stand for Children Day Celebration on Friday, June 1,
2018, at the Children's Garden in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The program will honor the memory of Margaret "Margo"
O'Connor who was a friend to all children; she was an elementary school
principal in Freeport, New York, active in the Nassau county Association
for the Education of Young Children, board member of Child Care Council
of Nassau, and coordinator of the 1996 Stand for Children bus trip to
Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable woman also organized numerous letter
writing campaigns for various children's issues; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Child Care Council of Nassau has
strived to ensure all families living and/or working in Nassau County
have access to quality childcare and early learning opportunities which
foster successful growth and development for every child; and

WHEREAS, As a Child Care Aware of American Quality Assured leading
resource on childcare and early learning experiences in Nassau County,
the Child Care Council of Nassau diligently works to inform families
about child care choices, indicators of quality and financial options;
support the child care workforce through programmatic enhancement
(education, health, safety and nutrition) and business development;
advocate for public policy change that support families, the growth and
development of children and the sustainability of the childcare
workforce; and partner with community leaders, employers, public
agencies and organizations to efficiently respond to and further develop
the child care system; and

WHEREAS, The success of Child Care Council of Nassau is in direct
correlation to the efforts of Executive Director Jan Barbieri and her
staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an
impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the institution and
the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, The Child Care Council of Nassau truly believes that all
children deserve early education and care; good childcare is a community

resource which supports families, contributes to economic productivity
and nurtures children's growth; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its 21st Annual Stand for Children Day Celebration on June 1, 2018; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jan Barbieri, Executive Director, Child Care Council of
Nassau, Inc.
